Your money
saved as you type
Two numbers do most of the work.
type it from your bank — this planner never connects to your bank
money in checking that is already spoken for — leave it at 0 if none, because it comes straight off safe to spend
roughly is fine — it only shapes the forecastpaychecks live in the Paydays card below while more than one is on
changes the mark and the decimals, not the maths
Bank accounts
nothing is deleted when you switch back
Most people keep one. Turn this on if your money lives in more than one place.
Use separate accounts when different bills or spending come from different places. You choose the account when you add a bill or log spending. This planner never connects to your bank — you type the balances.
Spending accounts count toward safe to spend. Savings accounts are listed, not counted. Bills and logged spending can name the account they come from.

Payday
—
Everything is measured to your next payday.
How does money usually come in?
Different amounts or different schedules are okay — monthly pay plus a bi-weekly paycheck, or two earners paid on different days.
no rhythm? type each payday below as you learn it. Until you do, the planner counts to the end of the month
1 to 31
put 31 for the last day of the month
any one real payday — the rest follow from it.pay does not have to land on the 1st. Use the date the money actually arrives.when it passes, come back and put in the next one. Until then the planner counts to the end of the month.every 28 days, so the date walks earlier through the month and you get 13 paydays a year, not 12. That is the point — nothing here needs fixing when it moves.
benefits and a lot of employers pay on the Friday before
where your bank puts this pay — the planner counts it there
One budget, several paychecks. Each one keeps its own name, amount and schedule. The planner works toward whichever lands next — you never make a second budget.
How much to show
nothing is deleted
Simple keeps the everyday screens close. Everything included adds Money in, Debt, Envelopes and Milestones.

What to call the big number
wording only
The name above the big number on Today. Pick whichever one your brain reads correctly. The number is worked out the same way whichever you choose.
Your balance on Today
display only
Show the checking balance you typed under the big number on Today, so you can see what the number starts from. Off keeps Today to the one number. The number is worked out the same way either way.

Your data
Your planner saves on this device first, in the browser’s own storage. A browser can clear that storage — Safari does it after about a week of not opening the planner — so a backup file is the copy that survives. If you turn on device sync, an encrypted copy is also kept so your connected devices stay up to date.
This copy is open in Safari. Safari deletes a website’s saved numbers after about a week of not opening it. Adding the planner to your Home Screen (or Dock on a Mac) stops that.
Your first backup has not been downloaded yet.
Erasing takes every number off this device and stops syncing here. It does not erase your other connected devices. No undo — download a backup first.

2 to 12 — 3 for every 3 months, 6 for twice a year
it keeps repeating from this daythe planner holds back a share every month, so the money is already there when it landsalready paid this one? take that payment off your spending log — the bill carries it now, and it should not be counted twice
the account this comes out of
Does this bill go on a credit card? Add the card on Debt and tick This is a credit card I still use. It then appears here under Paid from.
A bill charged to a card, like Netflix or Spotify, belongs here — pick the card under Paid from. If you log each card purchase as you go, don’t also add the card’s own monthly payment as a bill — record the month-end payment on Debt instead, with Record a payment.

How much actually went out?
the planned figure is filled in; change it if the real bill was different
This only changes what comes off your balance for this one payment. The bill itself, and the share put aside each month, stay exactly as they are. Typed it wrong later? Untick the bill and tick it again. Not sure? Close this and the bill stays unpaid.
Was this already out?
Yes is right when the bank showed that balance after the bill had gone. Not sure? Close this and the bill stays unpaid. Nothing changes, and the number reads lower rather than higher.
